Nonprofit groups around the country began hearing about our deliveries of sewing machines to New Orleans. Inquiries arrived, asking how they, too, might receive sewing machines. Our board developed an application process for machines. Each month, the board reviews applications, looking for nonprofit status as well as alignment with the SMP mission. We serve a wide variety of organizations from libraries to women’s shelters to refugee resettlement to after school programs. The common thread is that groups are using sewing to help people move forward.
Reading through monthly applications is an inspiration. While there is so much need, there are as many organizations crafting creative ways to meet that need.
